When the Kool Kats were away…

The quilting mice were quilting.  The first quilt is an applique quilt from Lyn at Maroochy River and this is being quilted with the happy times e2e machine quilting pattern.  The next two quilts came from Sue at Roma and these are for 2 boys in a Roma family.  They are being quilted wit the Waitomo e2e which reminded Sue of shields that suited these African theme quilts.  The Paris theme quilt came from Deborah in Toowoomba and is being quilted with the Bohemia e2e.  Wendy from Crow’s Nest, Qld, chose the chicken wire e2e to suit her applique poultry theme quilt.

Quilt proves popular choice for Kathy Adams of KoolKat Quilting

This year’s Viewer’s Choice winner at Toowoomba Quilters Inc. annual quilt exhibition announced this week was a colourful art quilt marking part of Tasmania’s history.

Kathy Adams of KoolKat Quilting took out the award with her colourful quilt “What a site!”

The quilt was designed to celebrate the site of Tasmania’s Maritime Museum and Art Gallery at the Gallery’s inaugural quilt challenge and exhibition two years ago.

Kathy’s quilt won Viewer’s Choice on that occasion and her quilt has proved no less popular with local quilt enthusiasts during last month’s quilt show held at the Salo Centre, St Ursula’s College during Carnival of Flowers week.

Kathy described her inspiration for the quilt as “The salty sea, ancient land, Port Arthur, the incredible harbour with Hobart at the epicentre – in all, what a site!”

The quilt was made using hand-dyed silk and discharged dyed cotton fabric, along with Google Earth images, her own photos and constructed using machine and hand quilting.
